Location: The Black Cat Cafe is on the top floor of Winstons Department store on Kieran Street right in the middle of town. If you park in Market Yard car park there is a door to the lower ground floor of the shop off the car park. If you come in from Kieran Street you will come in on the ground floor of the shop. |
Accessibility: The front door of the shop is automatic which makes life easier for everyone! There’s a lift halfway down the shop on the right and also an escalator to the left. The layout of the shop makes it easy to get from the front door to the lift. It is well spaced out - it has to be or else I would take everything with me! |
There is plenty of room in the lift for me in my wheelchair and for two people on either side of me. The buttons inside the lift and the call button for the lift are the perfect height for wheelchair users. I spotted a sign for Buggy parking just outside the café - I had never seen a sign like that before! This means there’s a lot more room to get around inside. |
The Black cat cafe offers table service to customers and the staff here are on the ball. The cafe has an outdoor seating area but unfortunately as there are two steps up to it not everyone can access it. The cafe itself is lovely and bright. There is plenty of choice on the menu including options for coeliacs. er seen a sign like that before! This means there’s a lot more room to get around inside. The best tables to sit at,if possible,in the café are to the left and right of entrance. |
Bathroom Facilities:
The bathrooms are on the same floor as the cafe and are at the opposite end of the building. You need a code to get in and if you ask a member of staff they will tell you what it is. The corridor is a little narrow but there is enough space to turn into the accessible bathroom.
The bathroom is very big and spacious. There is plenty of room to move around. I was highly impressed with it when I first saw it. Coming back out, I personally need a hand to press the door release and hold the door open to get out.
